Sára Saudková, née Šárka Směšná, studied at the University of Economics in Prague. In 1991, she met the photographer Jan Saudek, for whom she worked as a manager for many years and was also his partner, owing to which she herself became a photographer. Apart from freelancing, she has also worked on several projects, e.g. photographs for the Prague Chamber Philharmonic (2006–2007), and she also created portraits of 12 Czech celebrities, including the director Miloš Forman and the most successful Czech musician Karel Gott. She is a writer as well, writing both for adults and for children, autobiographic and fiction works. She has four children with Jan Saudek’s son Samuel.
She began photographing in 1999 and in 2000 she already held her first exhibition. Her early works were influenced by her partner Jan Saudek, who taught her. Initially she mostly photographed nudes, which she coloured like Saudek, and she did not shy away from similar themes either. Her work mostly consists of black-and-white photographs.
