Žaba

Žaba

A word from the so-called Horácko dialect, originally with a zoological meaning (“frog”), that denotes a young girl.

Detailed information

The term is still used in the Horácko area, i.e. an ethnographic region in south-western Moravia. Horácko covers a large part of the Vysočina Region, the centre of which is Třebíč. The local dialect is characterised by a unique composition of original Moravian and Czech verbs, typical of the borderlands areas. An alternative word for “žaba” is “kača”.
